Videoprojectie op het Mauritshuis voor het Jaar van Rembrandt.

2019 was named the Year of Rembrandt because of his death exactly 350 years ago. The major Rembrandt museums like Rijkmuseum, Rembrandthuis, Lakenhal, and Mauritshuis, jointly paid extra attention to the artist in 2019 with various high-profile exhibitions.

Our projection show opened this festive celebration on January 31st, with an exhibition and the Mauritshuis. For the first time, all 18 paintings by Rembrandt have been brought together in one exhibition. Not only the famous masterpieces are shown, but also works of art are seldom or never exhibited. This memorable happening was even visited by the formal queen of the Netherlands: Beatrix

The Dutch are known for their famous Golden Age painters, such as Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen and off course the great Rembrandt van Rijn. Rembrandt was the most influential painter in the European art scene of the 17th century and is internationally admired up to today.

Rembrandt is praised for his etchings and self-portraits but the biggest triumph is his picture The Night Watch (De Nachtwacht). Annually, over a million tourists visit the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam to see his masterpiece.
